Weapon pickups and Info Cards
I wanted a way for the player to see, at a glance, what kind of weapon they were using. Where they could look for a specific property (low cooldown, piercing, homing, etc) and quickly find the gun they wanted to use that would match their playstyle or build. I originally came up with an item card sort of like Diablo, but it was too much in the heat of battle.
So, I ended up with an icon system that would display important information about the weapon, but not ALL the information. Little things like how much angle, or how much spread. This is a similar approach to Noita's wand display and, right now, I think is the best way to convey information about a weapon before you pick it up and add it to your inventory. The item card also pops up when browsing in your inventory so, while its possible to pickup weapons with the same icon, you can tell their different properties without needing to equip and fire them.

This item card shows a blue color weapon that shoots fast, shoots once, has low cooldown, long life, pierces and has damage over time.
This item card shows a green weapon with slow speed, shoots once, medium cooldown, short life, damage over time, decay and AOE explode on death.
This item card in the player's inventory shows a red weapon with fast speed, shoots once, very low cooldown, long life, decay, homing and has some spread. Long life with Decay might seem to work against each other, but with homing it will actually make the bullet last longer if it finds a target before slowing down.
